Job Role: Amour Destine Trustee
Salary: Voluntary
Time Commitment: 6 days a year board meetings, a combination of hybrid and in person
About Amour Destiné
We provide support to black/black mixed race women affected by trauma such as being care experienced, Cultural Harmful Practices (CHP), Domestic Abuse (DA) and Sexual Violence (SV) in the Royal Borough of Greenwich & surrounding boroughs.
A culturally specific service to implement positive change and a better quality of sustained life by improving the quality and access to DA & SV services for black women.
We aim to achieve this by bridging the gap between the services available to them and the criminal justice process.
We help women affected to access free support services designed to support with an array of challenges that may arise because of CHP/DA/SV. Depending on their needs, we will liaise with organisations on their behalf and help them to communicate effectively during meetings to find solutions to their problem. We also offer 1:1 and group educational wellbeing workshops, led by inspiring women with similar experiences.
We also work with partners to influence change through research, training and consulting organisations to improve responses and access to services for black women and girls affected by CHP, DA and SV.
About the Trustee Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join our growing board of Trustees at Amour Destiné.
The role of the Trustees includes working alongside existing board members to support the Chair and CEO to oversee the governance of the organisation.
We are seeking Trustees with a variety of skills to join our Board. From experience working in welfare rights, Law, Housing, Fundraising, to Psychology & Therapeutic interventions.
Your role as a Trustee will include but not be limited to:
- Set and maintain the vision, mission and values of Amour Destine
- Develop strategy, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- Support the operational management of the organization
- Prepare and monitor the implementation of all internal policies, which must include equality and diversity as well as health and safety policies and grievance and disciplinary procedures
- Safeguard the reputation and values of Amour Destine
- Act in the best interests of the organisation, never in the interests of oneself or another organisation
In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience s/he has to help the board reach sound decisions. These may involve scrutinising board and focus group papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
A trustee is required to act reasonably and prudently in all matters relating to the charity and must always bear the interests of Amour Destine.
About You
The successful application will be:
- Passionate and committed to working within a multi-disciplinary team and will have a demonstrable track record of working with similar women that access our support service to live healthy safe and happy lives
- At least 2 years experience of working with black/global majority women survivors of harm such as domestic / sexual abuse within a trauma-informed and inclusive framework
- Knowledge & understanding of the practical, emotional, social, and economic issues facing black and global majority women affected by harmful practices , domestic/sexual abuse and other forms of violence and abuse at risk of harmful practices
- Knowledge of the range of options available to survivors of harmful practices , domestic/sexual abuse including safe housing, criminal justice, and civil remedies
- Knowledge of issues relating to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
- Working knowledge of current immigration, policing, and social housing issues relevant to harmful practices, domestic/sexual abuse
- Ability to demonstrate empathy for the issues and barriers faced by black and global majority women
- Ability to maintain professionalism when dealing with crises and challenging situations
- Ability to work in partnership and build and maintain effective working relationships with other teams and external organisations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use the Microsoft Office suite and case management systems
- Willingness to work flexible hours where required to meet the needs of the board
Desirable
- Experience of operating within a board in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation, as well as a commitment to feminist principles and a passion for ending violence against women.
- A strong commitment to tackling all forms of violence against women and children within a secular framework, and to fighting for the freedoms and rights of women and girls
