Today is October 1st, the first day of Domestic Violence & Black History Awareness Month.
1 in 3 women, 1 in 10 men will experience it in their lifetime. This is global women’s health issue that disproportionately affects black care experienced women.
To advocate for and stand in solidarity with survivors of abuse we will start our Sisters of freedom programme with our partner organisation The African Advocacy Advocacy Foundation in the Royal Borough of Greenwich focusing on developing healthy loving relationships from a black perspective.
Unleashing The power of Relationships & The Untold Story
In continuation of the Care Journey, Next chapter work together with our friends at Safe Lives will be sponsoring 2 black care experienced women to attend the Your Life Your Story residential event that brings care experienced adults and caregivers together with published authors, artists, and poets to learn the techniques of storytelling through the Arts. The event is hosted in October, the month that celebrates and raises awareness of National Care Leavers Week.
Black History Month 365 Days
We will launch our annual limited edition Handpainted African print Destiny Creator box next week via our etsy store, deliver a series of awareness activities over the next few months which will include the return of our quarterly live I Am Power event. After a few years hiatus we will be back to cultivate the minds of both men and women, on the topic of mental health through music, debate and discussion. There will be two questions up for discussion during the event, which explore issues affecting our community, specifically related to adult and child wellbeing.
